Arches National Park

             April 17

We spent today in Arches Park. We needed advance booking for a timed entry due to the popularity of the park. We were headed for a hike at the end of the park road, but stopped many times along the way to ooh and ahh over novel geology here.

The photos speak for themselves

We spent the morning hiking the Devil's Garden, a beautiful walk taking in a multitude of arches, spires and fins. There  was a lot of walking on the red sandstone 'slick rock' as well as scrambling up slopes, over some ridges and knife edges and sidling along rock slopes.

She earned it!

MOAB UTAH

April 16- We arrive in Moab

We spent the morning driving from Glenwood Springs to Moab. The last hour was down the 'Scenic Byway' ,Rt 128, with the last miles down the Colorado River. We hoped to find dispersed camping on BLM land which we had scoped out in advance. It is all first come, first serve, so we tried several small areas before finding an opening at Hal Canyon Campground on a sliver of land bordering the Colorado. There are beautiful canyon views and it is fairly quiet.

Scenic Byway descending to the Colorado

These BLM campgrounds are small but lovely

First stop was the visitor center for the lay of the land
Next up is the Corona Arch hike down the road

a little scrambling was fun.

The arch is impressive

It fit both of our heads inside!

This gives a sense of scale.

Stopped to see the dinosaur tracks on the way home.

Last up were the petroglyphs right off the road
