Monument Valley- made famous by John Ford : a Portland native son

Next stop on the tour is Monument Valley which we are visiting for the views. Naturally enough, we are staying in 'The View' campground on a bluff perched at the edge of a large area containing the Buttes and Mesas that make up Monument Valley.

Driving into the area, we can already catch views of the mesas.

It gets better when we get to our campground.

In the morning we took a tour of the area with guide Marjorie, who met us at 5:30 for the 3 hour tour.

    It was a delight watching..

                                                    the dawn..
steadily turn into day.

Marjorie sang and played music for us as the sun rose.

She took us to a variety of other sights along the loop road

One of these stops is the John Ford Point-

            showcasing an iconic view.

Another of these is 'the mittens'

'Stagecoach' (1939)

What appear to be traditional Navaho hogans are in fact an Airbnb!

Feels like we soaked up enough of this beautiful desert vibe before moving on.
